ATHN Technical Tools & Support

ATHN Systems is our seamless, integrated data management infrastructure. With customized tools and innovative technologies, ATHN Systems enables clinicians, researchers, and other stakeholders to gather, manage, and analyze a variety of data.

ATHN Affiliates use the ATHN Systems infrastructure as a powerful data management tool that facilitates and informs patient care, clinic management, research, surveillance, and reporting to federal and state agencies. The ATHN Systems infrastructure is safe, secure, and backed up regularly to make data available to our stakeholders 24/7.

Training and Technical Support

To prepare ATHN Affiliates in using ATHN Systems for maximum gain, ATHN offers group training programs and regular webinars, online technical support to triage individual site issues during regular business hours, and an online Document Library that provides help documents and training videos for ongoing reference.

WAPPS-Hemo and ATHN Systems Integration

ATHN Systems has integrated with WAPPS-Hemo, or Web-Accessible Population Pharmacokinetics Service for Hemophilia, making it possible to send WAPPS-Hemo requests directly from ATHN Systems.

What is WAPPS-Hemo?
WAPPS-Hemo is a centralized, dedicated, actively moderated database that allows participating hemophilia treatment centers (HTCs) to input factor VIII and factor IX plasma levels from sparse samples and receive individual pharmacokinetic (PK) estimates. These estimates are generated by an automated proprietary population PK engine and are then manually validated.

How is WAPPS-Hemo integrated into ATHN Systems?
Being able to submit PK requests directly from ATHN Systems streamlines data entry for HTCs. When a PK request is submitted, any data entered directly on the WAPPS-Hemo form is used to generate product usage, visit, and/or lab test records in ATHN Systems. Through the integration, users can:

  • Enter PK request data directly on the WAPPS-Hemo form
  • Pull data from existing ATHN Systems records
  • Use a combination of both methods
  • Download the PK estimate directly from ATHN Systems

Why is WAPPS-Hemo an important development?
The WAPPS-Hemo service was developed under the direction of Dr. Alfonso Iorio at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. It enables providers to tailor treatment to individual patient characteristics, which leads to better, more cost-effective care. By using population pharmacokinetics:

  • Fewer samples need to be drawn from the patients
  • Providers do not need to perform the calculations

In addition, the PK estimates generated through WAPPS-Hemo can be used to enrich the ATHNdataset, opening up new avenues for research and analysis. This is version 1.0 of the WAPPS-Hemo/ATHN Systems integration and future enhancements are planned. Visit WAPPS-Hemo for more information.
