The American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network (ATHN) is a non-profit, 501(c)3 corporation founded in July 2006. ATHN provides a national informatics platform and public health services that support clinical care and outcomes analysis, research, advocacy, and public health reporting in communities impacted by rare hematologic disorders. ATHN partners with a network of over 146 affiliated clinical sites (ATHN Affiliate Network) conducting research, surveillance, and quality improvement initiatives. In addition, ATHN partners with government programs, community-based organizations, and industry, with the ultimate goal of improving the care and quality of life for those affected by rare hematologic disorders.

Summary:
The Systems Engineer reports to the Lead Systems Engineer. The engineering team is responsible for all the system architecture that underpins the ATHN data collection system. As a member of the engineering team, the Systems Engineer ’s primary responsibility is to ensure the maximum availability, integrity, confidentiality, and privacy of ATHN’s data by ensuring that systems are maintained to the standards set forth in the system and security policies. This can range from patching systems regularly to planning additional systems and ensuring that they meet security and performance requirements. The systems engineering team works closely with all parts of the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitor all system health (disk capacities, load averages, firewall and security alerts) and support ATHN monitoring systems (CheckMK, Splunk, Nagios, Ansible).
  • Monitor system activities and alerts (email alerts, Nagios, Splunk, Airbrakes)
  • Rectify or reports issues noted with systems health and alerts.
  • Monitor and report system anomalies to the system engineering team.
  • Monitor system patch releases and upgrade weekly.
  • Deploy ATHN system application software(s) biweekly to production or as required by development.
  • Manage backups and archives.
  • Manage databases and replication (postgres, mysql, ldap)
  • Supporting the data center architecture and liaise with hosting companies.
  • Provide tier 3 support for ATHN requests, incidents and problems reported in ATHN IT Service Management portal.
  • Manage ATHN 3rd party business applications (Dropbox, Office365, Bitbucket, Zendesk, Atlassian, Airbrake, Mailchimp, SurveyMonkey, Pendo etc)
  • Troubleshoot incidents/problems, identify root causes, fix, document problems, and implement preventive measures by working closely with senior systems engineers.
  • Identify areas of improvement in ATHN systems and system management processes.
  • Write scripts to automate repeated tasks.
  • Liaise with the development team on application direction related to system capabilities.
  • Collaborate with IT desktop vendor to support ATHN users’ desktop computer systems & applications.

  • 2+ years of managing clustered computing environments (corosync preferred)
  • Experience managing systems remotely (VNC, SSH, Windows Remote Desktop)
  • Ability to troubleshoot network using Linux CLI
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to script in C shell, Bourne shell/BASH or PERL.  
  • Knowledge on Linux (CLI Level), OS X & Windows operating systems
  • Familiar with DNS Management and configuration (Bind and Route53)
  • Understanding on Dropbox, Office365, SharePoint, OneDrive applications.
  • Knowledge on Nginx & Apache web servers
  • Database management for Postgres, MySQL, LDAP (Nice to have)
  • Authentication management LDAP, Shibboleth, Kerberos, SAML, SSO
  • Virtualization (Xen preferred)
  • AWS (EC2, S3, Networking) (Nice to have)
  • Ruby on Rails experience considered a bonus (Nice to have)
  • SOCII accreditation experience a bonus (Nice to have)

Salary Range:  $80,000-$90,000

Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Adult Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) Medical Director, and Adult HTC Program Manager, the Clinical Nurse II – Practice Nurse in the Adult Hemophilia Treatment Center is responsible for providing direct and indirect clinical care to adult outpatients who have a variety of inherited bleeding disorders. Care is provided through the systematic application of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. All components of this process are individualized to meet the physiological, psychosocial, and developmental needs of the patients. The HTC Practice Nurse performs ongoing assessments and modifies the care planning process as needed, to ensure continuity of care between inpatient, outpatient, homecare, home, and multiple providers. The HTC Practice Nurse is actively involved in patient, staff, and provider education. (S)he participates in clinical research activities within the program and incorporates research findings into planning and implementation of care.

Required Qualifications

  • Possession of the legal requirements to practice as a Registered Nurse as determined by the California Board of Registered Nursing and 2 years of clinical experience; and knowledges and abilities essential o the successful performance of the duties assigned to this position. 
  • Current CPR certification.
  • 2 years experience in adult care.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, think critically and communicate calmly in complex situations.
  • Must be comfortable navigating and documenting in multiple electronic systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in nursing with an adult focus is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in an outpatient clinic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to properly triage adult Hematology patients via telephone call and in person.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.

License/Certification
Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
